Overview

For a certain generation, this is the watch. Before the world of horological blogs and Instagram, the TAG Heuer 2000 Professional was the undisputed king of the accessible, cool-as-hell Swiss sports watch. It was the watch you saw on the wrists of stylish people, the watch you aspired to own, and for many, the watch that started a lifelong passion. It is, without question, an icon of the 1990s and early 2000s.

The story of the 2000 Series is a story of survival and triumph. Launched by Heuer in 1982, right in the thick of the Quartz Crisis, it was a bold statement. The brand’s answer to the changing market was a robust, stylish, and incredibly capable dive watch built around six key features: 200m water resistance, a screw-down crown, a unidirectional bezel, sapphire crystal, luminous markings, and a double-safety clasp. This formula was a runaway success, and it arguably carried the brand through the tumultuous acquisition by TAG (Techniques d’Avant Garde), cementing the modern TAG Heuer identity.

This particular example, the Reference WN1110, is a fantastic evolution of that legendary lineage from the early 2000s. It retains the core DNA of the 2000 Series but updates it with a bolder, more contemporary dial featuring oversized Arabic numerals at 12, 6, and 9. Housed in a satin-finished 37mm stainless steel case, it’s a masterclass in functional design. The matte black dial is perfectly legible, the classic Mercedes handset is instantly recognizable, and the unidirectional steel bezel provides a satisfying, tactile click.

This is a true tool watch, and it presents beautifully. The case and bracelet show honest, gentle wear that is entirely appropriate for a watch of this era, but it’s clear this piece was well cared for. The bezel action is crisp, and the dial and hands are immaculate. Powered by a highly accurate and reliable Swiss quartz movement, this is the definition of a ‘grab-and-go’ sports watch, always ready for an adventure, no winding necessary.
